Crackings: Best Destin Breakfast

You’re about to have a big Destin resort kind of day and you don’t want to head out without a great breakfast. Or do it the way we do … sleep in, get some stuff done then go to Crackings for brunch. They specialize in breakfast foods (we can’t get beyond that to try their lunch menu) and close at 2 pm. They’re open every day except Monday.

Crackings is located in the heart of Destin (and also in Santa Rosa Beach — we need to try that one too!). They recently reinvented their branding, having been a part of the ‘Broken Egg’ family that recently franchised. The story we’ve been told is that this restaurant is owned by the brother of the person who owns the ‘Another Broken Egg Cafe’ chain and decided to not buy into the franchise but start out on their own.

Staying closer to Sandestin Resort? Try Brunch at Cantina Laredo in Grand Boulevard!

Cantina Laredo has a lovely brunch and includes either a Bloody Maria or Mimosa. Here’s their brunch menu. We think it’s one of the best meal values on the Emerald Coast. There’s lots of parking at Grand Blvd – a real plus in the summer months. Cantina Laredo also has patio seating if it’s not too hot or cold outside to enjoy it.

There is typically a wait, even during the off season but of course it’s a much shorter wait. They have nice benches indoors and outside that are covered. If you have a wait of over 45 minutes, there’s a Beach Zone store a short walk to the east that has relatively nice beachwear that you may want and need anyway. Crackings will text your phone when your table is available.

Tom and I over the years have learned that sharing two dishes lets us get to enjoy two favorites instead of just one. When going to Crackings, we share the Rajun Cajun Omelet. In our opinion, it is truly to die for. Once the omelet is gone, we down a Sweet Spud Pancake that tops off the meal with ‘dessert’. The omelet comes with crispy potatoes and an English muffin. Tom and I are very happy until dinner after having a Crackings brunch.

What to do after brunch now that you’re in Destin? Why not try a dolphin cruise out of Destin Harbor or enjoy the beach at Henderson Beach State Park? More information on these adventures soon!
